Promoting job-rich rural-urban linkages can be a key driver for sustainable and inclusive processes of structural rural transformation in India. Many stakeholders face difficulties to generate decent employment, partly due to sizeable connectivity gaps between rural and urban areas. The functioning of rural-urban linkages is compromised by the lack of access to demand, social protection and financial services. It is therefore necessary to facilitate and promote mutually beneficial rural-urban flows of human capital and labour.
Most rural youth remain primarily engaged in low productivity informal employment due to poor rural-urban linkages. Jobs can be aggregated in both in-farm and off-farm for these youth as long as rural-urban linkages with reduced transaction costs can be established. MetaSkills has a footprint at over 12 states and 37 locations from where Corporate manpower needs are aggregated and profiled. Trained candidates are then matched against these requirements and connected to gainful employment. Such enhanced linkages within rural/urban areas can thus play a key role in facilitating flows of investments, knowledge, and skills with effects on both the supply and demand for youth labour.
